Growing Up Working In PA Workers’ Compensation

  • Pamela D'Ambrosio
  • 04/04/2021

When I started in workers’ comp., I was 23 years old and I had only a vague idea of what it was. I was a recent college graduate with a degree in criminal justice and no idea what to do with it. All I knew is that I wanted to help people. After my first interview at a worker’s comp firm, I knew I had found what I was looking for. In working for a Claimant’s workers’ comp firm alongside a workers comp lawyer PA, I was fulfilling my desire to help people.

Adjusting to Working From Home Because of Covid-19

I have been lucky enough to continue fulfilling my desire to help people through a global pandemic. While many lost their jobs and their livelihood due to this pandemic, we have been able to continue to do our jobs remotely. This is not to say it did not come without challenges. At first working from home was a major adjustment. The loss of comradery with co-workers, not being able to leave the house and of course, working at home with small children were all challenges that I was presented with. I tried to stay positive throughout the ordeal and focus on the moments I was now having with my children that I never would have had. The lunch break walks, hearing them giggle and sing throughout the day. Getting the random hug and “I love you, mommy.” There were times it was extremely stressful, and I wasn’t sure I could cope. But with the support of co-workers, my family and extremely supportive and understanding employer, I feel I have finally come out on the other side.

I also love that my boys get to witness that women can be mothers and full-time employees. I love the example I am setting for them. At first it was a very hard adjustment for them as well. Since I was home, they were expecting my full attention, but of course, so was work. They did eventually get used to the fact that mommy had work to do. Now that they are (mostly) back in school things are definitely looking up. Working from home has become much easier and I still get to have moments with them I never would have had had a pandemic not forced us to adjust to this “new normal”. I love that by being able to perform my job remotely I get to be here for them more than I ever was before. And with today’s technology, working remotely is smoother than it ever was. Had this pandemic happened when I first started in this field, I am not sure if working remotely would have been possible without the online court system, e-filing and electronic faxing that we have today. We barely used email when I started my first job! I cannot imagine that now!

Working with Some of the Best Workers Comp Lawyer PA

Working in this field has changed a lot since I was that 23-year-old girl. I started as a “fill in” legal assistant, became a permanent legal assistant and eventually paralegal for a managing partner. I now work for two strong female attorneys. Each is a workers comp lawyer PA. I have helped them to grow their practices and achieve accomplishments such as recognition as Best Lawyers in America. This exclusive list consists of only the best 5% of lawyers in the United States. It is very rewarding for the attorneys you work for to receive this kind of recognition and I am extremely proud of the hardworking women I work for and of the hardworking woman I have become. When I first started in the legal field women attorneys were scarce. Now they are breaking down barriers and paving the way for future generations. I am excited and happy that my sons are able to witness this firsthand. They will grow up knowing that women have a significant role in the workplace.

If you have been hurt at work, it is important that you are represented by a competent, experienced workers comp lawyer PA. At Pearson Koutcher Law, workers’ comp. is all we do. Every one of our lawyers has at least 20 years of experience representing injured workers and will make sure that your rights are fully protected so your benefits are not cut off when they should not be.
