Philadelphia workers’ compensation law firm Pearson Koutcher Law supported the childhood cancer research foundation Alex’s Lemonade Stand by attending and participating in the Frozen Lemonade Cup, a charity youth ice hockey tournament held in West Chester, Pennsylvania on March 28, 2015. Youth ice hockey players gathered for one cause: to help raise money for the fight against childhood cancer. Pearson Koutcher partner Jonathan B. Koutcher stated: “There is no better feeling than giving back, which is a goal Eric and I established when starting our Firm. To be able to participate in this charitable event not only makes you realize the importance of the fight against childhood cancer, but also the ability of children to come together for a common cause with the understanding that others are not as healthy and fortunate.”
Alex’s Lemonade began in 2000 when four year old Alex, who was diagnosed cancer just shy of her first birthday, set up a front-yard lemonade stand to raise money to help doctor’s find a cure. That stand raised $2000 in one day. While battling cancer, Alex continued to set up her lemonade stands every year. News spread of this extraordinary girl dedicated to helping others and inspired people everywhere to start their own lemonade stands and donate the proceeds to her cause. By 2004, the year Alex passed away, her stand and the stands of those she inspired raised more than $1 million dollars toward cancer research.
Alex’s parents founded Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in 2005 to carry on their child’s dream of eradicating childhood cancer. Today, the foundation thrives. The mission is simple: to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research into new treatments and cures while encouraging and empowering others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer. Since 2000, Alex’s lemonade has raised more than $100 million, which has help fund over 475 research projects, create a travel program to help support families of children receiving treatment, and develop resources to help people everywhere affected by childhood cancer.
Pearson Koutcher Law is proud to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation as it continues to carry on Alex’s spirit of determination!
